ERMA and YAG visit to UNICEF

On 25 March 2026, students of the European Regional Master’s Programme in Democracy and Human Rights in South East Europe (ERMA) who selected the elective course on children’s rights had the opportunity to visit the Sarajevo office of UNICEF for an educational session dedicated to UNICEF’s work in advancing and protecting children’s rights.

During the visit, students learned more about UNICEF’s programmes and initiatives in Bosnia and Herzegovina and beyond, with a particular focus on research, advocacy, outreach and the practical impact of child rights work on the ground. The session provided valuable insights into how international organisations translate children’s rights principles into concrete policies, projects and support mechanisms for children and young people. The ERMA students were also joined by local members of the Global Campus South East Europe Youth Advisory Group (YAG), creating an engaging space for discussion and exchange between students, young advocates and practitioners working directly on children’s rights issues.

The visit represented an important educational opportunity and highlighted the strong and ongoing collaboration between the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies, the home of the ERMA programme, and UNICEF on children’s rights-related projects and activities. Through joint initiatives, educational programmes and advocacy efforts, this partnership continues to contribute to strengthening children’s rights education and youth participation in the region.

We are proud of this collaboration and grateful to the UNICEF Sarajevo team for hosting our students and YAG members, facilitating an inspiring and highly educational exchange, and creating space for meaningful dialogue on advancing children’s rights in practice.
