The Summer School “Climate Change and Air Pollution” was held from July 1 to 5, 2024, at the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies of the University of Sarajevo – prof. dr. Zdravko Grebo (CIS), with the support of UNICEF in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This event brought together experts from various fields, as well as students and high school students, to jointly analyze current challenges related to climate change and air pollution, and explore potential solutions.
Focus of the School
The program included lectures and workshops that dealt with topics such as the impact of climate change on the environment, human health, and the role of policies and legal frameworks in reducing pollutant emissions. Special focus was placed on an interdisciplinary approach and connecting scientific research with practical solutions.
Participants and Lecturers
The Summer School gathered students, high school students, researchers, and experts, which enabled the exchange of knowledge and experiences. Among the lecturers were renowned professors and experts who shared their knowledge and practical experiences about the global challenges of climate change.
Contribution of Young Researchers
One of the goals of the school was to motivate young researchers to become more actively involved in decision-making processes related to climate change and air pollution. Participants had the opportunity to present their knowledge and ideas, which resulted in rich discussions and new ideas for future research projects.
Field Visit
The Summer School program also included a field visit to the protected area of Skakavac, where participants had the opportunity to learn more about local challenges in environmental protection and measures to reduce pollution.
This event showed that multidisciplinary cooperation is key to understanding and solving problems related to climate change and air pollution, and that young researchers and experts are the future leaders in the fight against these global challenges.
