
The Global Campus South East Europe opens the Call for Applications for the 25th edition of the European Regional Master’s Programme in Democracy and Human Rights in South East Europe on 9 JUNE 2025 .
Admission will be done online in two rounds:
First round: June 9 – July 7 2025
Second round: August 25 – September 22 2025
ERMA is a one-year interdisciplinary Master’s programme coordinated by the University of Sarajevo (UNSA), Professor Zdravko Grebo Center for Interdisciplinary Studies (CIS) and the University of Bologna (UNIBO), Department of Political and Social Sciences. The Programme awards students with 60 ECTS and a double-degree diploma from both founding universities. It is a part of the Global Campus of Human Rights (GCHR), a unique network of over 100 universities, seeking to advance human rights and democracy through regional and global cooperation. Programme is co-funded by the European Union and thanks to its longstanding support provides students from South East Europe and EU countries a financial suport during their studies.
Our programme is intended for students passionate about democracy, human rights, and social justice who wish to combine theory with practical and field research experience together with mobility around the SEE region and Italy. ERMA fosters an interdisciplinary approach, and the curriculum contains core courses: Theory and Philosophy of Human Rights and Democracy; Nationalism, Identity and Conflict; Democratisation and EU Integration; UN and European human rights systems; Peace and Human rights; and Research Methodologies, together with 3 elective courses on Children’s rights; Environmental rights and Migration and human rights, with a focus on Southeast Europe.
Up to 28 students will be selected from the following target groups:
- Target group I (22 places): Citizens of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and citizens of Kosovo* (*who hold a passport of a country recognized by BiH).
- Target group II (3 places): Citizens of the European Union countries and Azerbaijan
- Target group III (3 places): Citizens of other countries as self-funded students.
REQUIREMENTS
I ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
The previous university degree of the applicants must be earned during studies lasting either 4 or 5 years (3+2) with a minimum of 240 ECTS. Candidates must hold a university degree in social sciences or humanities from an accredited university.
II ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY
Candidates have to provide evidence of English language proficiency. The Programme recognizes the following international English Language certificates:
- TOEFL – minimum 560 paper-based, 220 computer-based, 83 IBT;
- IELTS – minimum band 6.5, no less than 6.0 in any of its subsections;
- Cambridge C1 (former CAE) and C2 (former CPE) exams.
- Duolingo test certificate – minimum 115
Applicants with English as a native language, a university diploma in English language and literature, and those who had previous university education in the English language are exempt from providing a separate proficiency certificate. Such candidates submit transcripts or certificates issued by their respective universities.
TUITION FEE
TG I: 200€
TG II: 2.000€ (two installments)
TG III: 2.000€ (two installments) + 2700 € (costs of Term III lodging in Italy)
SCHOLARSHIP
All TGI and TGII students (from Southeast Europe, EU and Azarbaijan) receive a study grant of cca 4.800€ gross, covering basic living costs in Sarajevo, paid in several installments. They also get up to 1.500€ travel and other reimbursements, and have the costs of lodging and dining for one month in Italy covered.
TGIII students from other countries are self-funded and encouraged to apply for financial support to third parties.
APPLICATION DOCUMENTS
Application documents must be in the English language. When the original is in a language other than English, a translation by an official service (verified with a stamp) or your university/college must be provided, together with a scan of the original document. Please make sure that scans of any certified copy include pages with an official certification stamp.

- Passport photocopy (page with personal data and expiry date only)
Note: Scans of certified copies must include pages with the certification stamp. Late and incomplete applications will not be considered.
Note:
- Selected students will be required to submit all the application documents in hardcopy to the Programme at the enrollment.
- All diplomas issued by universities from countries other than Bosnia and Herzegovina (BA and MA) need to be recognised by the University of Sarajevo. The students should start the diploma recognition process together with enrolment.
- Applying for a temporary residence permit within 90 days from entering Bosnia and Herzegovina is mandatory for all foreign students. For more information about the residence permit, please check www.sps.gov.ba
